The Fairground Lofts located at 8159-8177 Kipling Avenue is a stacked townhouse development in Woodbridge, Ontario, completed in 2018 and widely recognized for the sensitivity of its design. The project was praised for its thoughtful scale and its successful preservation and integration of existing heritage homes—achieved through the careful placement of infill buildings and a considered palette of materials that allow old and new to sit comfortably together. Central to the scheme is its site organization: the buildings are arranged to create a welcoming central open space at the heart of the community, while service areas are deliberately screened from pedestrian views, keeping the public realm clean, green, and inviting. In taking on the stacked townhouse typology—one of the more demanding forms of low-rise density—the project was commended for resolving its complex design challenges with clarity and care.
