The Winlock Towns is a three-storey residential condominium in Toronto, Ontario, located on 260-264 Finch Avenue East, that successfully blends modern architecture with the intimacy of townhouse living. Completed in 2021, the stand-alone block consists of 24 suites, each complemented by appropriately scaled balconies and rooftop terraces that encourage residents to step outside and connect with the neighbourhood around them. At its core, the design introduces a robust urban landscape with grade-related experiences that actively facilitate social interaction, creating a livable, community-minded environment where the building meets the street. Clad primarily in stone and masonry, the Winlock Towns wears its materials richly: the deep textures reinforce a sense of solidarity and permanence, grounding the building with a quiet confidence. A strong horizontal street presence completes the composition, fulfilling the project’s ambition as a thoughtful piece of urban infill and stimulating the very community interaction it was designed to foster. The Winlock Towns demonstrates how modest scale, handled with care, can deliver an outsized contribution to its neighbourhood.
